Sophia Polk has danced with The Macholah Ballet for the past eight years and was in the Company program for 6 of those years. She has had the opportunity to dance many lead roles in our annual Christmas program, The Nativity.
Her dance background consists primarily of Ballet and Pointe training, as well as Improv, Tap, and Lyrical.
Sophia has been a follower of Jesus for 12 years and has a deep love for missions. She had the opportunity to teach ballet internationally for over a month. She is currently a sophomore at West Virginia State University studying English Secondary Education. She is so excited to continue to be a part of The Macholah Ballet and to continue sharing the love of God and her love of dance.
Sharnice Taylor grew up in Beckley, WV where she began her dance education at Beckley Dance Theatre School under the direction of Jerry Rose. BDTS is also where she began her teaching career. Sharnice continued her dance studies through Marshall University’s theater program for two semesters. Sharnice now teaches tap, jazz, and contemporary dance at Marshall University. She has performed and choreographed for their spring concerts. In addition to teaching at Marshall, she teaches hip hop and tap at True Impact Performing Arts in Barboursville, WV. Sharnice is currently working towards earning her Master’s in counseling with a clinical mental health emphasis.
Ms. Sharnice is excited to continue her dance journey with The Macholah Ballet! She will be instructing our Jazz & Contemporary classes.
Kelsey Gross begin dancing at age 13. Kelsey did one year of tap, jazz, and ballet with Monteia Childers then four years of tap, jazz, and ballet at Kelle Bogg’s dance studio. While dancing at Kelle Bogg’s, Kelsey was also on Winfield High School’s dance team for four years and was a captain for two years. When Kelsey moved to Morgantown, she began dancing at Morgantown Dance Studio. Kelsey took modern, lyrical, and anything else that would fit into her schedule. In 2012, Kelsey begin studying tap and musical theater with Liz Rossi and begin assisting with the children’s tap and ballet classes in 2013. In 2014, Liz begin teaching at the Artistry House and Kelsey increased the tap and musical theater classes she was taking with Liz. Kelsey also began studying modern with Andrea Gilreath. Kelsey was the substitute teacher for Andrea’s beginner ballet and Liz’s tap and musical theater classes for 2 years.
Miss Kelsey resides in Milton and works as a Social Worker at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

Lauren Brotsky founded The Macholah Ballet, Inc. in 2002 with a desire to train dancers in accredited curriculum from a Christ-honoring perspective. Her desire to nurture dancers and encourage them to grow is evident in the way she instructs her students.
Mrs. Brotsky began her training under Tamara Buel, studying the Royal Academy of Dancing syllabus and received Merit on her R.A.D. Intermediate Vocational Examinations. She was also annually adjudicated by the American Academy of Ballet in New York, receiving nine consecutive gold medals with distinction.
She went on to train and perform with the River City Youth Ballet Ensemble under the direction of Michelle Raider. She performed in notable classical ballets including, Cinderella, The Wizard of Oz, Pinocchio, The Snow Queen and The Nutcracker. Mrs. Brotsky was also on staff with River City Youth Ballet teaching and choreographing in the ballet program.
Mrs. Brotsky studied at the Royal Academy of Dancing Summer Intensive in Baltimore, Maryland in 2005. She also studied in Jackson, Mississippi at Ballet Magnificat! Summer Dance Intensive during 2006, placing in the highest level of instruction. She continued her summer studies with Ballet Magnificat! from 2007-2018 working under their Dance Teacher Continuing Education program.
It is her joy to train her students to grow in grace and watch them blossom into who God has called them to be!
Lauren resides in Scott Depot with her husband Matthew and fat cat, Taxi.
My name is Hannah Lefevre. I am a mama to two amazing tiny humans. I love Jesus, coffee, hiking, flowers, and dancing! I started dancing when I was eight years old, and it has been an on-again, off-again journey for the last nineteen years. I am excited to continue my dancing journey with The Macholah Ballet!
I have danced with The Macholah Ballet for the past 10 years and was in the Company program for 5 years, primarily studying ballet and pointe technique. In the summers of 2017 and 2018, I attended the Ballet Magnificat! Summer Dance Intensive in Jackson, Mississippi and have attended several Ballet Magnificat! Master Classes while the company was touring the U.S.
I am currently a freshman at Marshall University studying Medical Imaging, and I am very excited to continue with The Macholah Ballet as an instructor!
My name is Laura Lees. I am a kindergarten teacher at Mountain View Elementary. I have four grown children and one granddaughter. I love my job teaching the little ones and I also love to sew, read, and dance. I started dancing when I was eight years old and continued with lessons until I was eighteen. Tap dancing was and is still my favorite. Throughout the years, I have taken classes and taught the neighborhood girls dance for three years. Recently, I have begun dancing again with The Macholah Ballet and am so excited to be part of the dance family. We are going to have a marvelous year dancing together!
